Performance Indicators: Jobs and Housing The economic picture facing the nation and the District has changed substantially over the past year. A strong economy and housing market is generally positive, but many residents experienced considerable anxiety during the recent growth in real estate prices and wondered how long they could afford to live in the District. In fiscal year 2008 we will focus on removing barriers for small businesses, including ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to compete and grow. Most importantly, in fiscal year 2008 we will focus on preparing our residents for the workforce. Because ultimately, economic development is about developing people, not just places.
